Monsoon-proof your east coast trip (November to March)
Heavy rain, rough seas and flash floods: how to enjoy Mersing and Endau safely in the wet season.
The northeast monsoon usually brings heavy rain and rough seas to Johor’s east coast between November and March. You can still camp, but plan with the weather, not against it.
- Check the forecast and warnings from the Malaysian Meteorological Department before and during the trip.
- Do not pitch beside rivers or in low spots when heavy rain is forecast; flash floods rise quickly.
- Island ferries can be cancelled: keep a rainy-day plan.
- Pack extra pegs, guy ropes, a tarp and a doormat you do not mind losing.
- Park the caravan on firm ground and level it again after a downpour.
If you would rather stay dry, choose a hillside or inland site such as Kluang or Segamat, and save the beaches for March.
